In 2025, Manaka faced the unimaginable loss of her daughter. In the wake of grief, she chose not to retreat from the memories that filled her home, but instead to honour them—transforming her daughter’s favourite corner of the garden into a sanctuary of remembrance.
Before it became a memorial, this cherished corner was a haven of joy. It was here that her daughter would unwind beneath open skies, host spontaneous picnics with friends, laugh until sunset, and dream aloud about the future. It was a place that echoed with music, conversation, and the simple pleasures of youth.
Today, that same space has evolved into something equally powerful—quieter, more reflective, yet still filled with love.
The transformation was neither grand nor ostentatious. Instead, it was deeply intentional.
At the heart of the memorial garden stands a beautifully crafted pergola—elegant in its simplicity, strong in its symbolism. The structure was designed and brought to life by Legacy Carpentry under the creative direction of its founder and owner, Njabulo.
With careful attention to detail, Njabulo and his team approached the project not merely as builders, but as custodians of memory. Every beam, every joint, every curve of wood was shaped with reverence. The pergola does not dominate the garden; it anchors it—providing shelter without enclosing, protection without isolation.
Suspended gently beneath it is a swing. Its presence feels almost poetic.
The swing invites visitors to pause. To sit. To breathe. To remember.
